No. Septic pumping requires vacuum equipment, licensing, and a legal way to dispose of the waste. Attempting it without the right setup is dangerous, illegal in most jurisdictions, and creates an environmental hazard.

Most residential pumping jobs take under an hour once we're on site. Larger tanks or systems that haven't been serviced in many years can run longer. We'll give you a time estimate before we start.

Not always. If we know where the tank is and the lids are accessible, we can complete the work without you being present. First-time customers usually prefer to be home so we can walk them through what we found.

Only human waste and toilet paper should go down the drain. Wipes marketed as flushable, grease, coffee grounds, feminine products, and harsh chemicals all cause problems. What you keep out of the system matters as much as how often you service it.

Soggy spots in the yard, unusually green patches of grass, standing water above the field, and drains that back up after rain are all signs. Odors around the field area are another common clue. Any of these warrants a professional look right away.

The drainfield is the whole area where treated effluent leaves the tank and returns to the soil. Field lines are the perforated pipes running through that area that distribute the effluent. When people say a drainfield has failed, they usually mean the field lines aren't working anymore.

Sometimes. If you catch the problem early enough, techniques like jetting, aeration, or partial replacement can extend the life of the field. Once the soil is fully saturated and biomat has taken over, a full replacement is the only reliable fix.  

A properly maintained conventional system usually lasts twenty-five to forty years. Aerobic systems tend to run shorter without regular servicing. The single biggest factor is how well the system has been maintained and what's been sent through it.

Yes. Most jurisdictions require permits for installation, replacement, and major repairs. We handle the permitting process for our customers so you don't have to take care of it alone.

A percolation test measures how quickly water drains through the soil on your property. Health departments may require it before approving a new drainfield or full system installation. The results determine the size and design of the field you'll need.

Yes, and it's one of the most important inspections you can do. A general home inspector rarely evaluates the septic system in any real depth. A dedicated septic inspection catches problems before they become your problem.  

A real estate inspection produces documentation intended for a sale, and it typically includes a certification letter for the buyer, seller, and lender. Routine inspections focus on system health and maintenance planning. The scope overlaps, but the paperwork is different.

Before you can build a pool on a property with a septic system, the county needs confirmation that the pool won't compromise the tank or drainfield. The approval letter documents that setback distances are met and the system can safely coexist with the new build. Skipping this step will stall your pool permit.

A conventional septic tank relies on anaerobic bacteria to break down waste, and the effluent flows out to a drainfield. Aerobic systems add oxygen to speed up the process and produce cleaner effluent. Aerobic systems cost more upfront and require ongoing maintenance contracts.

Most aren't. A healthy septic system has all the bacteria it needs to function without help. Some additives do more harm than good, and none of them replace routine pumping.

No. Cars, trucks, and equipment above the drainfield compact the soil and can crush the pipes underneath. Even repeated foot traffic during construction projects can cause damage over time.

Shallow-rooted grass is the safest choice. Trees and shrubs with aggressive root systems eventually find their way into the pipes and cause blockages. If you want landscaping in the area, we can point out safer options.

The as-built diagram on file with the county is the most reliable source. Older systems sometimes lack clear records, and in those cases, we use probes and locating equipment to find the tank and lids. Marking the location with a discreet stake makes future service calls much faster.
